Boswellia carteri

Probably heard most commonly in biblical passages, frankincense has been a staple in various cultures for at least the last 5000 years, and is a foundstone of eastern medicine. The essential oil of frankincense is produced from the Boswellia tree, and comes from the sap, or resin of the tree. We source our frankincense from Oman.

Frankincense remains quite expensive due to its very pleasing odor, and it is used in everything from tea to perfume. Research has shown that frankincense may promote feelings of calmness and well-being, while also acting as a nootropic (assisting in memory retention and learning).

Frankincense has a range of benefits that include:

Stress Reduction

Frankincense has a very warm and inviting scent, and has been proven to be anxiolytic in various studies.

Mood Enhancement

Many people report that they feel more rested and relaxed after smelling or consuming products that utilize frankincense as a main ingredient. There is some speculation that this may be related to its association with spirituality and religion.

Pain Reduction

Traditional Chinese medicine deploys frankincense as a pain relief strategy, particularly where pain is related to an inflammatory condition. Modern medical studies support this data. Frankincense can act as an inhibitor to leukotrienes, which cause imflamation.
