Most people believe that the grapefruit is its own species, but it is actually a hybrid of a pomelo and a sweet orange. The fruit was originally discovered in 1750 by Rev. Griffith Hughes while observing its growth during his travels to Barbados. The fruit’s name “ is thought to be a reference to the fruit growing in clusters that remember grape clusters.
Grapefruit essential oil is predominantly limonene, a terpene found in almost all citrus fruits. Limonene is known for reducing inflammation, supporting the immune system, anxiety, and supporting weight loss.
